Helena residents enjoy this beautiful, scenic lake just 20 minutes from town.

Canyon Ferry Lake is a wonderful recreation playground that offers all sorts of activities. The lake is a great local fishing spot  with excellent fishing for Rainbow trout, Perch, Ling, and Walleye.

The Lake also has many boating opportunities, with concrete boat ramps and three marinas for motorboating and sailboating.

Wildlife viewing is exceptional at Canyon Ferry Reservoir.  It is one of the best places to view large concentrations of Bald eagles. There is also a wildlife management area is located at one end of the lake and it is home to a a colony of Terns and pelicans.  Arrow’s Goldeneyes, Chestnut -collared Longspurs and Longbilled Curlews also call this area home.  The area surrounding the lake is also he perfect habitat for the hundreds of Pronghorn Antelopes that are found here.

Canyon Ferry lake gets it name from one of the three ferries, also know as "crossings" that allowed people to in the nearby mines and ranches cross the Missouri River.
