The Holter Museum of Helena Montana

The Holter Museum of Art houses an incredible collection of contemporary Art

With a collection of more than 1,500 works of modern paintings, ceramics, sculpture, drawings and sketches of regional artists including many who have resided in Montana.  The collection focuses on Montana’s contemporary cultural and artistic heritage.  The Holter Museum supports artist’s contemporary expression and makes their works accessible to the public. The collection consists of world famous ceramic artists Rudy Autio and Peter Voulkos and many artists who have participated at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena. It also contains pre-modernist artist Elizabeth Lochrie and Montana’s first modernists-Robert and Gennie DeWeese,  Frances Senska, Jessie Wilbur and Lela Autio.  The collection also contains the works of Richard Buswell and Barbara Van Cleve, photographers who documented Montana and the West.  Other artist such as Ann Appleby, kate Hunt, John Buck, Ted Waddell and many others help round out an incredibly important collection of national and regional art works.   Besides the on-going exhibitions of their permanent collection. The museum has published four catalogues describing the works of above artists Peter Koch,  Rudy Autio,  Frances Senska, and Robert De Weese.  The museum offers self-guided and docent-led tours for all ages.  The Holter Museum also offers art classes, artist talks, international artist residency programs, scholarship programs and a wonderful gift shop that offers unique gifts like hand-blown glass, fossils, jewelry, coffee table books and much more.
