Founded in 1865, the Montana Historical Society Museum is the oldest historical society museum west of the Mississippi. The Museum focuses on preserving historical resources such as art, books, photographs, oral histories artifacts and artifacts for future generations.
The museum also provides educational programs, reference services, permanent and changing exhibits as well as publications dedicated to Montana’ past. At the moment the museum is hosting three traveling exhibits;

The Montana Historical Society also preserves the Original Governor’s Mansion in Helena as a historic home as well as the Moss Mansion in Billings.
