Mount Helena City Park
The perfect escape for the outside enthusiast.
The peak of Mount Helena City Park is perched at 5,468 feet above sea level. The park is comprised of 620 acres and overlooks the city of Helena which lies 1,500 feet below. Many, many trails abound, here are the six main trails:
1906 Trail- The easiest and most direct route to the top of the mountain for over 70 years.
The Prairie Trail-Named for the abundant beautiful wildflowers that bloom along this trail it is the best place to view the surrounding cliffs.
The Backside Trail-This trail is typically grassy woodland. Meander through gorgeous giant Ponderosa Pine forests.
Hogback Trail- Rough and rocky, it offers breathtaking views in every direction. Enjoy the wind-swept alpine experience.
Prospect Shafts Trail- Named after the prospector shafts that are located about halfway down the trail.
West End Trail- Located in the most remote part of the park, it is worth the additional effort.
The park is a don’t-miss attraction and it is free of charge and family-friendly. It is maintained by the city of Helena and other local groups.
